We have learned from our past experience with Friendship Groups that they are the “engines” of AUW. The groups help us stay grounded and connected. They often provide emotional support, and at times pastoral care. They can serve as a portal to the wider church community and to the wider world of social justice. Some Friendship Groups have volunteered together to help with one-time church events, or together have taken on a social justice issue close to their hearts. Although Friendship Groups are not “therapy” groups, they can become anchors of friendship.
