Our Next Event

We are thrilled to announce our next event featuring artist Fawzia Khan!

Saturday September 26, 2026

2:00 - 4:30 pm

Exhibition: The Paglees: Between Reason and Madness

with Artist Talk by Fawzia Khan

The Catherine G. Murphy Gallery at St. Catherine University

2004 Randolph Ave, St Paul MN 55105

Fawzia Khan is a multidisciplinary visual artist and curator based in Hopkins, Minnesota. Born in Lagos, Nigeria to Pakistani parents, she immigrated to the U.S. at the age of twelve.

An obstetrician/gynecologist, she gave up her medical practice after becoming a mother.

Eventually she returned to school to study art. Ms. Khan holds a BA and MD from the University of Missouri and a BFA from the University of Minnesota.

Ms.Khan is an active member of two national multiethnic artist collectives, the Habibtis and the Paglees.

She is a member of the Interfaith Artists Circle in the Twin Cities, has juried the

Minnesota State Fair Arts Competition, and helped develop a public art program in Hopkins, MN.

The Paglees is a national multiethnic feminist collective of artists Shelly Bahl, Monica Jahan Bose, Fawzia Khan, Renluka Maharaj, Indrani Nayar-Gall, Nirmal Raja, and Pallavi Sharma. Paglee or pagli means crazy woman in a number of South Asian languages. In their exhibition, The Paglees investigate — with fierceness, beauty, and wit — the impact on women of generations of patriarchy, religion, white supremacy, colonialism, violence, capitalism, and environmental plunder.

The title of the exhibition derives from Rosa Parks’ words:

“There is just so much hurt, disappointment, and oppression one can take. The bubble of life grows larger. The line between reason and madness grows thinner.”

The Paglees: Between Reason and Madness questions and reframes the labeling of

non-conforming women as crazy and the marginalization of immigrant women of color.

Our afternoon of art will follow this schedule:

2:00 pm: Gather and Intros

2:20 - 2:50: Artist talk covering both East and West galleries

2:50 - 3:15: Independent gallery viewing. Revisit the works with additional context.

3:15 - 4:00 pm: Facilitated group discussion.

We will meet in the gallery auditorium in case of inclement weather,

or on the green outside if fine fall weather.

4:30: Event Ends
